چکیده

key words: Textile conservation, black-dyed silk, tensile test, compression resilience, accelerated ageing To propose a new non-destructive assessment procedure for historic Suga-yarns using the “Kawabata Evaluation System (KES)”, compression resilience (RC) was compared with tensile breaking strain, which is traditionally used to measure mechanical properties of yarns. Modern raw silk yarns dyed with tannic acid and iron mordant were degraded artificially and used as a model of historic Suga-yarns. The tensile breaking strain of model yarns decreased over a 70-days degradation period, so did the RC.

Simultaneous Contact Sensing and Characterizing of Mechanical and Dynamic Heat Transfer Properties of Porous Polymeric Materials

Porous polymeric materials, such as textile fabrics, are elastic and widely used in our daily life for garment and household products. The mechanical and dynamic heat transfer properties of porous polymeric materials, which describe the sensations during the contact process between porous polymeric materials and parts of the human body, such as the hand, primarily influence comfort sensations a...

Investigation into the Effect of Extended Laundering on the KES-F Mechanical Properties of an Easy Care Treated Cotton Fabric

The effect of extended laundering on cotton fabric treated with Dimethylol dihydroxyethyleneurea (DMDHEU) easy care finish was investigated and the fabric characterised by crease recovery performance and the Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabrics (KES-F). The KES-F results indicated that the mechanical handle properties of the DMDHEU treated cotton fabrics were affected by both the levels of ap...

Predicting Tactile Fabric Comfort from Mechanical and Handfeel Properties Using Regression Analysis

In this paper we explore complex relationships between mechanical and sensory properties of fabrics, and the perceived tactile comfort. Mechanical properties, measured objectively by Kawabata Evaluation System for Fabrics (KES-FB), and handfeel properties, measured subjectively by sensory expert panel, are related to the tactile comfort of fabrics using statistical regression approaches. A univ...

Comparative Analysis of the Effect of Heatsetting and Wet Processes on the Tensile Properties of Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and Poly Ethylene Terephthalate (PET) knitted fabrics

Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) is biodegradable, melt processable and environmentally benign aliphatic polyester produced from the fermentation of natural renewable resources like corn, sugar and vegetable. The comparative analysis of the effect of time of heatsetting and wet processing from this research showed that PLA exhibited good textile properties for versatile end applications. This research ...
